Someone FINALLY Uses Movie Logic.

Posted by Lou On November - 19 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Its about time organizations, government, police forces, and community authorities start to employ some of the genius ideas and strategies used in Hollywood films! I may sound crazy, but I KNOW I’m not the only person on the planet who has watched a movie and said, “hey, that might actually work IRL (in real life).” Seriously, how many of you watched “Armageddon” and considered that were the earth ever attacked by a large US-sized meteor that potentially signified the total end of mankind and the eternal abyss of our universe, its possible that good ol’ Billy Bob Thorton, Bruce Willis, and Ben Affleck might be on to something? As far as I’m concerned, drilling a hole into the center of the giant mass of destruction and blowing it up from the inside out is brilliant, and should absolutely be NASA’s first move should we ever be faced with this action packed end of days. Nevertheless, i diverge. Coming back to the point of this post, I just read a story on the New York Times that was somewhat reminiscent of Queen Latifa’s “Beauty Shop.” This story, which i shall tag here, and which I assume you will respectfully NOT click on until you have read the remainder of my post, is about a new program training hair dressers how to recognize signs of domestic abuse. Turns out, officials are realizing that women in abusive situations are often too scared to come forward, but feel most comfortable in a Salon with their hairdresser, where they often share stories. So, as a result, they’re training stylists on how to help and advise women to get help at the appropriate places. Finally someone learned something from watching movies where everyday people usually turn out being heroes. Like the Zohan. Duh. Anyhow, you are now free to read the article which is a little long, but definitely something interesting that you don’t read about everyday.

peace and silky-smoothness.

TroopTube

Since 2007, the Department of Defense has restricted overseas military personal from accessing a number of popular sites including YouTube and MySpace for reasons largely attributed to bandwidth usage and possible security issues. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Delve Networks has teamed with Military OneSource (a service of the Department of Defense) to launch TroopTube – a YouTube-like site that gives all active-duty military personnel and their families a place to share their videos online.

Step Aside Google!

techcrunch.com~At first glance, the rumors make sense. Apple’s Safari browser has 6-7% market share, and currently uses Google as the search engine for both the standard and iPhone/iPod versions (unlike other browsers, you don’t have a choice). They also have a suite of personal productivity tools through Mobile Me that bring some hard core users to their servers daily. All of that traffic and usage equates to a lot of searches, which can be monetized heavily.

Also, Apple can’t be super pleased with Google’s competition to the iPhone with Android. Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who’s also on Apple’s board of directors, sits out of discussions involving Apple’s mobile strategy, and rumor is he may leave the board.

But one important fact that isn’t checking out – if Apple were building a search engine, they’d be hiring search experts and engineers. We’ve talked to a ton of them at all the big companies, and while some of them heard the same rumors, none have lost search employees to Apple, or heard of any specific hirings.

That alone almost certainly rules out a full on search competitor. You can’t do it without people who know what they’re doing.

Apple also loves the fees they receive regularly from Google for search marketing dollars earned from Safari. They obviously aren’t in the advertising business today, so even if they did launch a search engine they’d still heavily rely on Google or its competitors for the advertising piece. So why invest all that capital into search?

The answer is they’re not. But the rumors persist, and we believe they have a nugget of truth. Here’s what we think is really going on: Apple doesn’t like the search experience on its mobile devices, and may be building a radically different user experience which is much more visual than exists today. It will likely still be powered by Google results, but Apple may present it in a very different way that suits mobile users much better.

Stay tuned for more. There are pieces of this we are still putting together.

Obama and his Blackberry

Posted by Ariel On November - 17 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

I read a really interesting article on NYTimes.com about how President-elect Obama, who is an apparent Blackberry addict, might have to give up his beloved little device after he takes office in January. Apparently, by law all of the President’s correspondence is public record, including email and text messages. Just goes to show you that the leader of the free world has to sacrifice some of the freedoms we all take for granted.

Fuck you Disney channel stars

Seriously, eat a dick.

I’m not one to hate on artists because I just don’t like their music, but you guys take it to another level. Not only is your music terrible, but you’re painting a picture for our younger culture that life is all lollipops and abstinence.

Yeah, great role models you are. Keep wearing your stupid virginity rings while you wave your ass in front of some perverts camera, then post it all over myspace. The count is now up to 3. That’s right 3. Can you name me 3 adult hip hop, rock, or action movie stars who have personal nude pictures on the internet?

You guys are worse than Manson, worse than Hip Hop, and worse than video games. Why? Because parents actually think their children will learn something from you. Instead their children are getting a false sense of how the world really is.

You aren’t art. You aren’t talent. Fuck you.

With your BitTorrent addiction in full swing, you’ve filled hard drives with media but can’t seem to figure out how to burn any of the videos you downloaded to a DVD. Sound familiar? Luckily that’s no longer the case, and today we’re taking a look at two dead simple solutions for burning virtually any video to a DVD you can pop into your DVD player and enjoy.Click this for the FREE software list.
