Radiohead remixing DOOM

Posted by Lou On March - 11 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

hiphopdx.com~Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has garnered a tremendous amount of accolades in the Rock world. With a large following of his British band, Radiohead, and critical acclaim to spare, Yorke has always been highly sought after. Although many are fans of his, he has expressed his appreciation for DOOM, one of the most well received independent artists in Rap.

DOOM, who recently dropped MF from his name, will release his highly anticipated album, Born Like This. According to Current.com, Yorke has left his fingerprints on the album by remixing “Gazzillion Ear.” The song will only be available on iTunes.

Recently, Yorke made rap headlines when he snubbed Kanye West. West recently spoke to fans during a VH1 special about the incident. According to Yeezy, he approached Yorke at an award show.

“Hi, my name is Kanye. I’m a musician. I’m a fan of yours,” he told Yorke, who only replied by walking away.

The album, Born Like This, will hit stores March 24. Details on the upcoming album, including a tracklist was reported by hiphopdx.com late last month.

I’ve seen bongs made out of N64 and NES controllers, and both were amazing. But a bong made out of an Xbox 360? Oh hell yes.

As you can see by the photo below, this is a serious piece of custom-made weed smoking equipment. Sure, it won’t play Fallout 3, but it’ll make playing Fallout 3 on a functioning Xbox a lot more fun.

Now if someone wants to make a grinder or a stash box out of a controller to match this thing, you’d have the most epic and nerdy smoking setup ever. It’s AWESOME!. Anyone else have homemade gaming-related paraphernalia? Send it to me! I love this shit.

When Christa Manos began to receive dozens of calls one Saturday evening, cursing her for being a bad mother, she quickly realized that she’d been the victim of a prank.

Apparently, someone spammed swarms of Xbox Live users, offering a 2-year-old girl for sale with the simple pitch, “selling a child, will pay for shipping.” The spammer also included Manos’ phone number in the message.

Many of these Live subscribers subsequently called Manos to give her a piece of their mind. There was no mention if any offers were made, but on the bright side, Manos has “a good idea who is responsible.” And we’re guessing she wasn’t referring to herself.

Mentally Disabled ‘Fight Club’

Posted by Lou On March - 11 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) – Seven employees at a state-run home for the mentally disabled have been suspended for allegedly staging a “fight club” among residents.

Corpus Christi Police Captain Tim Wilson says the fight clubs were uncovered when someone gave an off-duty police officer a cell phone containing videos of fights at the Corpus Christi State School.

Wilson says the videos show mentally disabled adult clients punching, shoving, and striking each other while the employees watch.

Wilson calls the abuse “appalling.” He says police expect to file charges against several employees by the end of the week.

The school opened in 1970 and is home to about 360 people, according to the Web site of the state Department of Aging and Disability Services.

‘Vampire’ Skeleton Unearthed in Venice

A skeleton exhumed from a grave in Venice is being claimed as the first known example of the “vampires” widely referred to in contemporary documents.

Matteo Borrini of the University of Florence in Italy found the skeleton of a woman with a small brick in her mouth while excavating mass graves of plague victims from the Middle Ages on Lazzaretto Nuovo Island in Venice.

Ma Dukes and PR Realease New J Dilla ISH!

Posted by Lou On March - 10 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Before renowned Hip Hop producer J Dilla passed away in 2006 due to complications from the Lupus, he had already recorded a number of unreleased tracks, including music he produced during his stay in the hospital. More than three years after his death, Dilla’s mother Maureen Yancey, who is better known as “Ma Dukes,” along with Dilla’s idol and respected Hip Hop producer Pete Rock are planning to release a posthumous project of Dilla’s unreleased beats and samples, called Jay Stay Paid [J$P], late this spring.

Executive produced by Ma Dukes, J$P will feature music pulled off of Dilla’s old floppy disks and DATs, as well as later tracks laid down during Dilla’s time spent in the hospital. Ms. Yancey assures that the project was not rushed, nor was it done haphazardly.

“This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, [and] what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep,” she explains. “This is like the missing links to Dilla’s legacy.”

The format of the album plays like a radio show with Pete Rock acting as a radio DJ. While largely instrumental, J$P also features guest vocals from artists Black Thought of The Roots, MF DOOM, and M.O.P. All are artists that Dilla worked with or admired.

“Dude was amazing,” said Pete Rock, who shared that he and Dilla held a mutual respect and high level of regard for one another. “He just kinda came out of nowhere and the more you heard his beats the better they got. He may not be with us, but it’s all good we’re going to keep his music alive and well.”

Jay Stay Paid will be released on June 2 via Nature Sounds.
