If you live in Miami, you know that here amongst the palm trees and chonga-booty-shorts, BASS was born. And if you are a lover of the BASS, then you know that the man who wields it is none other than the 305′s Juan Basshead. It is hard to think the man who brings the WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP to the sweaty, frenzied masses on Miami’s dance floors is anything but loud and gregarious, but that is not the case. In fact, Juan Basshead is quiet, reflective and admittedly shy. They say that those who... Read More →
First and motherfucking foremost, I wanna wish a super dope birthday to the beautiful lady that holds the thesaurus to my heart, Ms. Goobs. Just so happens that her birthday this year lands on Guilletines 100th podcast. Now… Let’s sit back and think about this for just one minute… 100 Podcasts… This means – 100, one hour long mixes every Tuesday, for 100 consecutive weeks. I dare anyone to say they are this bored. Now, for the 1 Year Anniversary of him designing these... Read More →
There is an absurd, antiquated notion going around that somehow LeBron James is now validated as an NBA great because he won a championship. That being the best player in the game was not enough, but that you have to have the best team too. Winning a championship at any level in a team game requires you to have the best team. It is one of the sports stigmas that I have been condemning for years. Winning is overrated. I know what I just said. Okay maybe just using “A winner” as an adjective... Read More →
Your Miami Heat are once again NBA Champions. With seemingly most of the media rooting against them, Miami dispatched the favored Oklahoma City Thunder in five games with a 121-106 victory Thursday night. The Thunder were supposed to be the deeper, more complete team. I call shenanigans on the top-heavy OKC. It seems the Thunder have two guys who can score the ball and a bunch of role players who cannot. The Heat meanwhile have three scorers and role players who can hit a jump shot. Oh and a swarming... Another history lesson is in session ladies and gentlemen, by none other than DJ Guilletine himself. Every now and again, Guilletine likes to keep you guys on your toes and bring you the tunes that actually inspired your favorite songs to be born. The tunes that someone listened to, learned and re-produced… Which then became one of your all time favorite songs. This medley was inspired by Mr. Remix, Pete Rock. Take a listen to the classics that Pete Rock sat through and became inspired with... Read More →
Nobody does BASS like Miami. And nobody knows BASS in Miami like our friends over at (((SHAKE)))‘s GET LOW party. They just celebrated their three-year anniversary of bringing the WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP to The Vagabond on Thursday nights and they did it in style… by releasing a 12-track Bass compilation featuring some of Miami’s finest and some of GET LOW’s most memorable DJs called F WITH FLORIDA. Pretty sexy, eh? Here’s what Jsin J of GET LOW had to say about this fine... Read More →
Biggie has been gone for a year. Tupac gone for two. So what now? The legends have been made. The epic albums have all pretty much set their grounds. By 1998, what we get most of is the eclectic styles being born and some, unfortunately, never being able to be called “epic”. The underground is alive now due to the billion dollar empire that the MTV Hiphop has built. The “Golden Era” is not far from dying out. Yet, some silver lining still shines. We’re here to point...
