As much as Guilletine and my self are fans of instrumentals, I’m totally amazed that Damu The Fudgemunk took this long to shine light on. We’re constantly listening and learning just to bring all of you some of the best Hiphop you’ve probably never heard and trust me when I say… this might just be one of those artists. A master at the SP-1200, Damu the Fudgemunk is also a student to some of his (and your) idols such as Pete Rock, Grap Luva and even DJ Premier. And you will... Read More →
Considering we just lost one of the legends last week (R.I.P. MCA), DJ Guilletine and Antisteez decided to pay homage to one of the most epic crews to ever touch the Hiphop scene. One of our past writers is the biggest Beastie Boy fans in existence (I’ll fight whoever says different) and we asked him to pick out the songs that best described The Beastie Boys. And obviously DJ Guilletine made the magic happen with the tracklisting. 33 years making music, The Beastie Boys released a total of... Read More →
This week we take a look at one of the illest cities to ever make music. Yes, Motown was born in the city of Detroit, Michigan… but have you really paid attention to the Hiphop this place is pumping out? Royce, Eminem, J Dilla… sure you’ve heard these dudes but take a listen to the ones you might have never heard of. Names such as Phat Kat, Black Milk, Elzhi, Platinum Pied Pipers, Waajeed and one of the toughest females in the game, Invincible. All of you constantly listening know... Read More →
All sorts of crews and record labels in Hiphop by 1997. I think this is the year that money REALLY started to accumulate. Bad Boy, Death Row, multi-million dollar empires filled with the music that will be remembered forever. Tupac passed away late ’96 and Biggie passed away early this year, so I’m guessing Hiphop felt that they needed to step it up and come super strong. Grab the formulas they had discovered from Big and Pac and made it their own. This is how the legends were produced. So,... Read More →
I’m pretty tough when it comes to production and beat making. I mean, I’ve done my share of producing (No, you won’t ever hear any of it.), but most of all I’ve done TONS of research on those whom I consider to be “good” producers. I examine each track. I literally wonder, “WHY?”, when I hear a sample a producer chose. I criticize drum loops and the velocity of snares and hats. It becomes a huge problem, especially when homies of mine, like Steve Vaynshtok,... Read More →
Three days away from everyones favorite holiday. WHO THE HELL IS EXCITED?!… I know. Not many of us make a big deal of it. And there’s a very simple explanation for that. Well, because we celebrate Weedaween three or four times a day. And who the hell wouldn’t? We at Antisteez decided we’ll give everyone a special gift for Merry Kushmas this year, and stuff your hemp stockings with a Guilletine podcast, mixed with a ton of herbalicious tunes. Tunes everyone remembers from... Read More →
Jazz Liberatorz hits this weeks mix as we show off the importance of the Jazz genre in Hiphop. These cats, a group of DJ’s and producers from France that are all instrumentalists aswell, joined forces to create some of the most chill Hiphop, yet heavy hitting boom bap you will ever hear. Working with such names as Fat Lip (from The Pharcyde), T-Love, Apani B, Aloe Blacc, Mos Def and… tons of other individuals. Jazz Liberatorz is sure to make your Tuesday and most likely the rest of your... Read More →
Big Daddy Kane, B.D.K., Dark Gable, King Asiatic Nobody’s Equal, Blackanova, Count Macula is one of the smoothest rappers to ever hit the radio. A flow and wordplay that most rapers have always and still look up to. Classics for days. And let’s not forget the “sexy” pics he took for Playgirl. This week Big Daddy Kane hits the podcast and it’s definitely something no one wants to miss. As always Guilletine tears up the mix in an attempt to give everyone a brief history... Read More →
