Coming from the Perverted Monks camp, Afu-Ra is most well known through his affiliation with the Gang Starr Foundation and Jeru the Damaja. Remember that song on Jeru’s The Sun Rises in the East album called “Mental Stamina”? That dope MC on there? Yeah… That’s Afu-Ra. That was his first major mention to the world. He made another appearance on Jeru’s second album Wrath of the Math, on the track “Physical Stamina”, in 1996. Afu’s debut single, “Whirlwind Thru Cities”, was released in 1998, reaching the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart. In 1999, he released his second single, “Defeat” b/w “Mortal Kombat”.
Dude is known around the Hiphop community as one of those dudes you just don’t fuck with. Not ONLY cause of his wicked wordplay and flow but because he’s pretty into Kung-Fu…. and Chess. Interesting, huh?

![CYNE banner [Podcast]: Guilletine presents CYNE podcast CYNE banner](http://www.antisteez.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/CYNE-banner.jpg)
CYNE formed in the summer of 2001, within the longtime hardcore/punk/d.i.y. tradition of Gainesville and collectively embrace a stylistic range that includes everything from prog to pop to metal. These cultural informers collided with CYNE’s practice of sampling and live instrumentation to create music that is the cumulative representation of both the personal and the political.
CYNE (“Cultivating Your New Experience”) has collaborated with artists from around the world, including Nujabes, whose solo projects have featured Cise Star and Akin, Four Tet, who produced several remixes for and toured with them in 2005 and a ton of our homeys from the 305 like Seven Star, Manuvers and Soarse Spoken. The group’s debut release was a hard-hitting 12” entitled ‘African Elephants’ . Since then, CYNE has released a number of EPs, singles, and two critically well-received albums.

For those that are constantly mentioning how the 1993 Podcast changed their life, you’re about to change your minds. Once a month DJ Guilletine blesses all of us with a mix commemorating one of the golden years of Hiphop. We sit back and between him and I we do mad research on all of the banging albums released said year and we pick out the dopest tunes and he makes love to his turntables. Now… apparently since we began doing this, you guys have jumped on these mixes ASAP and lived religiously by them.
Well, this week (year), 1995, GZA dropped Liquid Swords, Mobb Deep dropped The Infamous, Group Home dropped Livin’ Proof, Raekwon dropped OB4CL and… do I really need to continue? I’m going out on a limb here and saying this might out shine the 1993 one… What do you think?

From time to time, our fam around the 305 jump in on some of our podcast because like you, they know that music connects all of us. One of those peeps happens to be Jose Mertz, the Creative Native himself.
I am going to go ahead and describe Mertz as one of the most-talented men I know. A brilliant artist, his work is what art should be; thought-provoking, provocative and visually stunning. This son of the 305 is also a rhyme-slayer. His freestyle prowess is sick. He produces music and I have been a fan of his sound for over 15 years.
That’s why when he wanted to produce a podcast of the music that inspires him, we green-lighted him ASAP. The result? The CRAK mix below that is indeed, addictive.
When I heard it, I was moved. When I listened to it a second time with antisteez’s chief album reviewer, EZ, he was moved. When I sent it to our CEO, Lou, he loved it. Those should be all the seals of approval you need. This mix is tested and approved. Check it out below and see what the Mertz man himself had to say about it:
“The mix came into fruition from the appreciation for melodic heavy beats and dope rhymes. Some tracks are from the 90′s “golden era” of hip-hop and some are new cats that I think are fresh right now. I also have a retro funk jam sprinkled in there. Drive to it…be easy. Peace & love+” -Jose Mertz

One of the most legendary albums ever are thanks to these crazy lyricist/barber shop quartet (Lol). Bone Thugs-n-Harmony had songs that even our parents used to sing and even respect due to the fact that they are beyond talented. Super catchy tunes filled with impeccable melodies and harmonies yet STILL used to make us drive around with our bandanas and dark shades on. One of the main reasons most of us smoke as much as we do and we don’t even realize it.
Working with the top of the top heads around the world. Who the hell didn’t want to work with Bone Thugs? One of Tupacs most incredible verses are on Thug Love track and a tune where we heard Biggie spit some extra fast lyrics, doubling up left and right. So, go ahead and cop what you need to… roll what you need to.. and spark up what you need to in order to enjoy this mix that will remain as one of the epic ones.

14KT is one of those producers you’ve definitely heard… but like… You haven’t. Like, he’s there, in that one album you love to love, but like… the artists might say “14kt” and you just shout out “BLING BLING, NIGGA!” not realizing that what the artists is doing is shouting out the genius that produced your favorite track on that album.
As most every producer that’s from the 2000′s, he’s a huge Dilla follower. But you can actually hear and feel it in this dudes music. Incredible drums. Undefinable samples and a swing that can make your joints unhinge.

Once upon a time, in February of 2011, right around Valentine’s day, our fearless leader Lou got an epic idea. (One of many, I assure you.) He thought that it would be an AMAZING idea if for Valentine’s day, he and I offered ourselves up to the masses for some hot and delicious dinner and a movie. And maybe some awkward moments, because Lou and I are KNOWN for our inside jokes and relentless, maniacal laughter that no one understands but us.
Yes, Lou decided that we would put out our weekly podcast and for the glorious day of love, Valentine’s, we would give our readers an opportunity to win a date with us. The conversation went as follows:
Lou: Boo, I have an EPIC idea.
Goobs: What is it?
Lou: How about if for the Valentine’s day podcast, we do a contest where our fans can win a date with you and me. Like, someone can win a date with you. Someone can win a date with me. And then we can go out on a double date for dinner and movie.
Goobs: That is the worst idea ever. Of all time.
Lou: Boo! It’s epic. Allowing people to win US. You know how many people will enter this contest? People love us, boo. They want to hang out with us. It will be amazing.
Goobs: Absolutely not. No. No. No. What if some creepy guy enters because he wants to see my boobs? What if some stalker girl enters and wins a date with you and then reveals that she wants to tie you up and do weird shit to you?!
Lou: I am perfectly fine with that.
Goobs: No. No way.
Lou: Come on! Please! It will be so epic.
Goobs: Fine. Ugh. No. We can’t. Ugh. Fine. I hate you.
So, we asked our writer Omar to raffle us off to the masses and he sat down and composed the most-hilarious WIN LOU AND GOOBS contest post of all time. Here it is:
I have been selected to inform you all of our very crazy and very real Antisteez’s Valentine’s Day/Possibly-A-Love-Match-If-You-Like-Hip-Hop-Hermits-Or-Big-Boobed-Potty-Mouthed-Women-That-Work-In-Porn-Mines-Contest!! Okay, okay, that’s not really the name of the contest but everything in that last sentence is absolutely true and can become a reality for you if you participate! Basically, what’s going on here is that we got bored and decided it would be awesomely epic if we gave all of you a shot to go on a date with our fearless (and lonely) leaders, Mr. Lou “I don’t leave my house for shit, son!” ANTISTEEZ himself, or the one and only Goobs, self-proclaimed porn miner that likes to point at things with her huge boobs. The best part? Two winners will be chosen, making this a DOUBLE DATE! I told you we loved you!
Here’s the deal, basically all that you need to do is:
1) Download the podcast (because it is awesome)
2) Leave a comment below (only one entry per person, please)on why you deserve this date. You can be witty and funny or you can go the romantic route and leave a poem or a sexy lyric for either Lou or Goobs. You can also go the creepy stalker route (my favorite approach) and leave cryptic serial killer shit for them to read and totally regret this idea ever became a reality.
3) You need to be available for this date, which will happen this Saturday, February 12th at 8:30. You will meet be treated to some yummy pizza at Piola on South Beach and then a movie right next door at the Regal South Beach Theater. (You must have a ride, transportation will not be provided)
So now that you know what the lowdown is…what do you know about your possible dates? Just because you love ANTISTEEZ.com and you devour every post that we post for you does not mean that you know Lou or Goobs. Trust me…they are both quite the catch, if you like catching awkward stares from strangers (I kid,I kid!). I will do my best to introduce these two lunatics to you a la Chuck Woolery from The Love Connection (yes, yes, I’m old, I know).
We’ll start with Goobs:
Goobs is kind of an enigma; if I was a cartoonist I would just draw a pair of ginormous boobs and a big mouth holding a megaphone, which naturally, she would use to yell obscenities with. When she is not busy at the helm of ANTISTEEZ, she can be found cooking lavish meals, tearing up the dance floor, hanging out with her squad or saving kittens and puppies…and by kittens and puppies, she means hot ladies and strapping, young men. Ever the equal opportunity destroyer, goobs is looking to win the heart of a nice girl or bad boy so that she can make funnies and possibly bump uglies. That’s right…this date can be VERY interesting, only hilarious and awesome-minded people can enter this realm, if you don’t fit the bill, she’ll chew you and spit you out. She is brains and mad genius-like, so I hope you like talking (a lot) and maniacal laughter (also a lot) because there are no seat belts on this ride!
Next up is Lou, the mastermind behind ANTISTEEZ. Some people like to think of him as the old man behind the curtain from The Wizard of Oz, but our man Damian prefers to think of him as one of the sexy mens from Oz, the show. Lou doesn’t like anything that you like. He’s a cave dwelling computer humper that is only concerned with this site and the mixes that Guilletine does for the site. Any other subject that you may attempt to bring up during your date with him might cause his cyborg head to explode all over you, causing it to rain green Matrix-like numbers and symbols all over your face. You might get some in your hair or in your eye, but it’ll wash out, trust me (wait, what?). Okay, that was a bit much, sorry. What I was trying to say is that yes, he is a hermit, but he wants you to know he’s really a hopeless romantic at heart (he made me say that, can you tell?). His idea of a perfect night would be coding a website, while a beautiful Jordan-wearing girlie hums Dilla instrumentals and makes him a waffle. I don’t know what any of this means but it would make him happy, apparently.
So there you go! The contest is OFFICIALLY on! we hope you guys are pumped on this, because it should be kind of AMAZING when it all happens! download the podcast, think of your approach and comment away! I know that I just blew your mind, think about how crummy you were feeling before you read this and you thought that no one loved you. Remember kids, ANTISTEEZ loves you…we love you long time.
It was funny. It was true. It was kind of epic. Lou and I were super-pumped to have all the people in Miami (Not really, mostly all the people in our imaginations.) begging to go on a Valentine’s date with us. We were convinced that this was the best idea ever, of all time. We were walking around all proud of ourselves, like we had invented the wheel and cheese. Like we built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn.
It was all ready to post and then…LOU GOT COLD FEET.
You can imagine that it was frightening when he realized how many women were going to enter this contest just to try and get in his pants. I am talking about lines and lines and lines of women, all wearing fly kicks and already lubricated for loving with Lou. (And I was absolutely relieved because I knew that no one was going to enter to win a date with me. Why? Because Lou was in this contest and let’s face it, he is WAYYYYY prettier than I am.) So Lou, being the incredible partner that he is, took pity on me and decided to pull the contest.
So, the night before the Love Podcast and WIN LOU & GOOBS contest was about to go live, we had to call Omar and tell him that his amazing story was not going to post. He cried. And then he complained. And then he cried. And then he complained. Naturally, Lou and I just laughed and laughed at his pain. We decided that our fans would much rather win a gift certificate for dinner and a movie with a date of their own choosing than to go on a date with us.
And while Omar NEVER FORGAVE US for abusing his genius, The LOVE PODCAST CONTEST was a great success and our winner had a lovely time…
But somewhere deep inside, Lou and I will always regret not going on that double date because who knows? We might have lost our one opportunity to find love in Miami. And when we think about it, it makes Lou and I sad. And then we sit in front of our computers and go to youtube and watch the scene where Dumbo goes to see his mom in jail and we cry and cry.
And cry.

C’mon now. Must I even write anything for a J Dilla Instrumental mix? I’ve said everything I need to say or that can possibly be said about this man. Last year Christmas time, we blessed you with a J Dilla produced podcast featuring every artist you can think of blessing us over J Dilla beats. Today, you get just the beats. Beats that have been rumored to have slipped through certain producers hands and into this hour long mix.
Supposedly what would happen is that Dilla would send a beat tape over to the artist he was working with, with tunes he would imagine would best fit this artist. One thing led to another and now we got our hands on these beats. So time to press play and relax all week long to the most delicious donuts anyone can ever ask for.
Enjoy and Re-share there treats!!

Marco Polo is one of the newest additions to the Duck Down camp and with the skills this man holds, I’m not surprised. One of the hardest producers to have come out in this decade, Marco Polo can do some serious damage with just an MPC and a broken down MacBook Pro. And, I’m sure he’s upgraded since then, but once his first album dropped, he told me he was just on 1 gig of ram on that thing.
Marco Polo and Torae together = Double Barrel, which you’ve heard Antisteez speak about a few times. Apart from Torae, Polo has worked with Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, Buckshot, Wordsworth, O.C., Kardinal Offishall, Large Professor, Sadat X and… shit… you name it.
Definitely a treat that we bring you this week. Thank Guilletine and Antisteez later.

Yet ANOTHER 90′s Hiphop podcast. This week we remember 1994 for being one of the golden years of this incredibly lyrical genre of music. Everyone was starting their names and becoming the kings of their sound by this point. Wu-Tang had been established, Biggie had finally risen and the West was also holding the hood down with it’s Dr. Dre and Warren G… yet all the lyrical underground still reigned supreme with Jeru, Common and Shyheim.
Download this mix that Mr. Guilletine has put together with some of his all time favorite tunes from 1994 which I’m sure will make every one reminisce on how incredible that time of our life was.

Every now and again you’ll catch us teaching everyone a bit of history and popping off what we like to call “SAMPLE MEDLEYS”. It’s literally a mix put together with all the samples used to produce the song/album you’re listening to. This weeks Sample Medley is none other than every ones all time favorite album. Ready to Die is possibly one of the staples of Hiphop and an incredibly well produced album. Incredible songs made thanks to… incredible songs. This week we commemorate those songs used to make this album. and of course we added the actual album tunes just so we can include the flavor we’re all familiar with.
