PROP 8 STRUCK DOWN: Justice 1, Insanity 0

Last Wednesday, while most of us were either still wasting away at work or in the process of making our escape, something big (read: HUGE) happened in California. At around 2PM on the West Coast, Proposition 8, the law that defined marriage in California as valid only when it’s between a man and a woman, was ruled unconstitutional by a federal court judge.  The ruling basically restored a civil right that had finally been recognized for gays and lesbians by a California Supreme Court decision... Read More →

Damas En Blanco: A Call For The 305 To Represent

Being from Miami and half Cuban, my sense of Latin pride is pretty ferocious. My Cubanism, if you will, was fostered by my exile great-grandparents and grandmother, who raised me as a child. Who instilled in me this Latin pride that courses through my veins just as surely as my blood. And just as my pride, my orgullo, pumps through the heart of this third generation Cuban here in the 305, so does my sense of indignation at the plight of my people on the island only 96 miles away from these shores... Read More →

Today is for the brave men and women who have fought for the red, white and blue and for me and for you. In my lifetime I have had the honor of knowing many incredible people. Famous, average, intelligent, gregarious, affable and humorous types that have filled my life with joy and laughter. Loving, warm and caring folks who have shared with me their homes and hearts and made me feel like I belonged. Near and far, my acquaintances with these people have, for the most part, cushioned my very existence... Read More →

Wall Street Journal~Outgoing Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin is pushing for action in December on a plan to offer free, pornography-free wireless Internet service to all Americans, despite objections from the wireless industry and some consumer groups. At its December meeting, the FCC could also consider new rules designed to speed up consideration of disputes between independent cable programmers and cable providers such as Time Warner Cable Inc. and Comcast Corp., which... Read More →

Since 2007, the Department of Defense has restricted overseas military personal from accessing a number of popular sites including YouTube and MySpace for reasons largely attributed to bandwidth usage and possible security issues. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Delve Networks has teamed with Military OneSource (a service of the Department of Defense) to launch TroopTube – a YouTube-like site that gives all active-duty military personnel and their families a place to share their videos online. ... Read More →

Obama and his Blackberry

17 Nov

I read a really interesting article on NYTimes.com about how President-elect Obama, who is an apparent Blackberry addict, might have to give up his beloved little device after he takes office in January. Apparently, by law all of the President’s correspondence is public record, including email and text messages. Just goes to show you that the leader of the free world has to sacrifice some of the freedoms we all take for granted. Read the full article here.  Read More →

boingboing.net~Still wrapping my head around this, but it sure is interesting at first glance — in part because of the speed in which it was launched. Change.gov is a website launched by the Obama team’s Presidential Transition Project which documents the transition into power and solicits ideas from the public.  Read More →

It’s Wednesday, November 5, 2008, and we have just elected the 44th president of the United States of America. The dust is just now settling as we come to a close of the long and exhausting Presidential campaigns that have been fought so diligently by both candidates, and Sen. Barack Obama has just been named America’s next President. It’s evident that emotions are running high both for supporters, and challengers as we have just witnessed what will come to be one of the... Read More →
