Another piece of my childhood fades in to the distance with the passing of Randall Mario Poffo, better known as “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Savage died after suffering a heart attack behind the wheel of his 2009 Jeep Wrangler, which consequently caused him to lose control and crash in to a tree. His wife Lynn was also in the car but suffered only minor injuries. We all know that the WWFÂ (WWF > WWE, btw) is scripted entertainment, but Macho Man reminds me of a simpler time when Voltron... NBA – Staff Photo You see what I did there? I know you saw what Udonis Haslem did there! Haslem came off the bench for 23 minutes, scoring 13 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. On the surface, for those who may have not watched the game, those numbers don’t exactly jump off the page. But for those who did watch, we got exactly what we needed and have been sorely lacking in these playoffs, a consistent post presence on both ends of the floor. What Haslem brings in the way of toughness,... Read More →
Fellow steezers, what we witnessed last night was a harsh reality that I have mentioned on more than one occasion… the Miami Heat are incomplete, and now you can add the Chicago Bulls are a better “team”. To those who watch closely this is not news, nor is it reason to panic. The Heat still have the two most talented players on the floor, and have the capability to run and gun any team out of the arena if given a chance. The end part of that last statement is paramount, because... Read More →
Miami Herald - file photosThe answer to the question in this title is simple… HELL YES! Former Miami Dolphins tight end, and long time radio broadcaster Jim “Mad Dog” Mandich lost his battle with bile duct cancer last night, he was 62. Mandich was an All-American tight end at the University of Michigan, as well as the captain of the Wolverines’ football team. He played and fought his way to being the 29th pick (round 2) in the 1970 NFL Draft, the first pick made by then new... Read More →
What will you football fans do with your Sundays if the fall rolls around, and there’s no pigskin on the boob tube? (hehe… I said boob tube) Anyways, we are in the midst of an NFL work stoppage, due to the expiration of the league’s collective bargaining agreement. Basically, the agreement expired, so the owners lock the player’s out of team facilities or functions due to liability concerns. The players are allowed access to a select number of team training facilities, but... Read More →
This Florida Panthers season is coming to an end, and not soon enough. They are on pace to have their worst finish since the 2003-2004 season, which was one of the last and very few times that they were simply not competitive. I usually refrain from hockey posts, because I think that me and a few of my friends are representative of only a small percentage of real hockey fans amongst the South Florida sports scene. The shame is that I’ve always thought that the NHL is the best sports ticket... Read More →
With the football season in jeopardy, March Madness taking hold, and the NBA and NHL seasons making their playoff push, the 2011 baseball season is sneaking up on us. Despite my feelings towards the Florida Marlins‘ front office, I always get excited for the start of baseball season. Like most seasons in South Florida, this one begins with cautious optimism, and just as many reasons for hope as their are questions to be answered. A quick look up and down the roster is a veritable who’s... Read More →
Nobody said this would be easy. Oh wait…yes they did. Everybody did. I was one of the Miami Heat fans who said this team would win 70 games this season, and they still may if you include the playoffs! I guess I should be more specific next time. The Heat bounced back from its five-game losing streak  (Which before the season seemed unfathomable) in a big way by beating the two-time defending NBA champion L.A. Lakers, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the San Antonio Spurs in succession. The victories... Read More →
AP Images We believed that the Miami Heat would be our salvation in this bleak sports town this year. The beacon of hope that shined through this perfect storm of mediocrity in our professional sports landscape. Although all hope is not lost, it is getting increasingly hard to keep faith in the midst of this 5 game losing streak. A streak that has exposed the Heat for exactly what they are, and what we have failed to see since “The Decision”. This team, with all of it’s talents... Read More →
Eliot Kamenitz/The Times-Picayune Former Miami Hurricane, New York Giants, and New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey wants to come back to the city he considers home, and the Miami Dolphins seem to have a mutual interest. Shockey passed a physical yesterday, and is reported to have also worked out for the team. When healthy, Shockey is a game breaker, and a game changer that would be a perfect compliment to Anthony Fasano‘s stout blocking and short to medium range receptions. He is often... Read More →
AP photo If you are surprised by the trade of Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks, then maybe you have better things to do than watch television or listen to the radio, because this has been more debated than the Van Halen – David Lee Roth split. Is he going to New York, or is he going to New Jersey? Back and forth for what seemed like forever, but it all came to an end, and he is a Knick. It took three teams and thirteen players to solidify his trip to the Big Apple, and that isn’t... Read More →
