Who knew that one could combine their long lost Kinex-LEGO affinity with their insatiable desire for adventure and excitement? Saturday thirty-three teams will be doing just that. Taking their human-powered personally-designed flying machines and soaring off a 30-foot high flight deck into the blue of Biscayne Bay.

Red Bull Flugtag takes place on July 10^th at noon, Bayfront Park (301 Biscaybne Blvd.) for FREE. Bear witness to the Flugtag (which means “flying day” in German) teams as they hope to catch air or sadly sink into watery depths of failure and embarrassment. I mean what can you expect when you try to fly a taco?

These human-powered contraptions will be judged on flight distance, creativity and showmanship. No pressure! While the world was starved of flugtagging last year we can only hope that Red Bull and the competitors will make up for that two-fold this year.

Miami last hosted a Red Bull Flugtag competition in 2004. Who knows what kind of crowd will be drawn for Saturday’s run. The 30 teams from across the Southeast should be warned that they’ll be only meters from the home of a new dynasty. I wouldn’t be surprised if Heat fans threw themselves off the deck in midst of all the commotion.

To date the record for flight stands at 195 feet, which was set in Austria 2000. Good luck and may the winds be with you!
