On September 24th a bedtime story was told… mostly because our eyelids could barely stay open and it all felt like a dream. In Miami we’re infamous for our tardiness. While we all know things don’t run according to schedule any headliner who comes on past 1am is bound to ruffle some feathers. At least there was plenty of entertainment, emphasis on the plenty. The acts who went on before Slick Rick were numerous to say the least. We even had some out-of-towners, which was refreshing. And got to witness the demolishing of a taco 12 pack and some scored some promo swag, but as the humidity and frustration filled Eve patience began to wear thin.
When Rick the Ruler finally arrived he was ushered to the stage (which grows each time we visit good old Eve). The crowd was thick with anticipation, hands held high and cameras set to REC. He settled himself in the center of the stage with his glistening accessories and familiar eye-patch with a hypeman on one side and Dynas on the other. Then with the blink of an eye, pun intended, he zoomed past four songs. It’s possible we were hypnotized by his diamond encrusted chain which I’m pretty sure was rotating slowly, because the man seemed to never have moved from the first spot he settled on and didn’t take his hand out of his pocket more than once.
My apologies to the Englishman if our venue, crowd and hype didn’t live up to his legacy, but we deserved better than that. Then to throw salt into the wound of fanaticism he was whisked into his waiting car, leaving those who had purchased VIP tickets with a promise of a meet-and-greet with empty promises. There were many new faces in the crowd, so I hope Slick didn’t leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. Luckily you wouldn’t be able to tell from the pictures, because all in all… I think everyone had a great time regardless and this is how I will end this story. Goodnight.
