If you’ve ever been to The Loft above Grand Central you know it’s like being transported to New York, just for a moment where the brick walls and industrial ceiling surround a low key stage framed by large multi-pane windows that look out onto the city. Okay, fine they look out onto a parking lot, but for a split second it’s a nice sight. The night was filled with entertainment from YMF who boasted a third emcee, beatboxing that left our jaws on the floor, mosh pits enduced by the Out of Hand Band, live painting by Kazilla, a very interesting performance by the Cornerstoners and then what everyone was waiting for…
DJ Alex J kicked of his set by mixing tracks off the newly released album “Futuristic Sci-Fi” and then Doodlebug jumped in to perform a couple of new singles as well as some Digable Planets favorites. Doodlebug made sure to shake lots of hands and probably would have kissed some babies if they were available. He hung out in the crowd for a bit meeting anyone who was so inclined. The evening was wrapped up by Shuttle Life and Metro Zu… considering it was late into the wee hours of the night and everyone had been standing around for hours these guys put on quite the show. They had enough energy for everyone. Oh, to be young again.
Stay tuned for footage from the show and an exclusive interview with Dooglebug and DJ Alex J!
