Massive Attack are considered a music production and vocal duo from Bristol, United Kingdom. They’ve been working along side co-producers, they assemble together session musicians and guest vocalists with they make records and tour live. Massive Attack are considered the progenitors of the trip-hop genre although they have other genres blended together within their music.
Massive Attack originally had three members DJs Grantley “Grant” Marshall (a.k.a. Daddy G or “G”), Andrew “Andy” Vowles (a.k.a. Mushroom or “Mush”) and painter-turned-MC Robert Del Naja (a.k.a. 3D or “D”) which met as members of The Wild Bunch, but are currently reduced to DJs Grantley “Grant” Marshall (a.k.a. Daddy G or “G”) and MC Robert Del Naja (a.k.a. 3D or “D”).
As far as the career of Massive Attack goes, they’ve been going and they’ve been going strong. With four studio albums, two compilation albums, and sixteen singles. “Teardrop” is featured as the theme song for the television show, “House”. Most of these albums have also been certified as in 2x Platinum and 2x Gold awards. Massive Attack is probably one of my main favorite bands in the trip-hop genre because of many factors and considering that they stick to their genre but morph the genre with their own touch of other genres.
For any first time Massive Attack fans out there, I can say its safe to try out any of their albums first. I think they’re all great, but my preferences are mainly Mezzanine and 100th Window. Anything that involves more mastermind behind Robert Del Naja is amazing to me. I won’t take anything away from Daddy “G”, but I just prefer Robert Del Naja’s vocals and his production.
On the very finale of this article I would also like to announce that Massive Attack will be releasing their latest album, “Heligoland” 02/08/2010. Be on the look out.
