3:16 – Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and LeBron James; that’s the order in which they arrived to THE Miami Heat. Just like we refer to “THE U†now it’s “THE Miami Heatâ€Â. These Transformers of players have come together to do one thing- win. “Not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven” titles per Lebron at the Welcome Party Friday night. Was this fate or pure coincidence?
Think back to the last championship the Bulls won. It was the last time we ever saw THE greatest player [singular]. They were the team to beat. Besides the Celtics (winning a ridiculous 17 championships, including an 8-peat) who else has dominated the league by 3-peating? Post the Jordan era, the only team that has accomplished this has been the Lakers at the turn of the century (such a long time ago!) and they have the chance to accomplish this again. Winning a title is difficult enough, but 3-peating is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination, no matter how good the players are. It is still a TEAM game. The league today is now run by five teams: Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Magic and Bulls. Yes, in that order although the 5th team may vary.
What we saw on July 8, 2010 at 9:40pm was beyond anything I have ever heard in my lifetime of sports fanaticism; you might as well have told me that E.T. exists.
“I’m gunna take my talents to South Beach…”
I jumped, yelled, high fived, pumped my chest… I can go on for days and days like Rakim. Ladies and gentlemen, the feeling has not yet sunk in; it is sirREAL. My generation has seen Shaq go to the Lakers and 3-peat with Kobe, Horry and Fisher. We have seen Jordan come out of retirement TWICE, crush all and along the way set a 72-10 record amongst others. We have seen Nas and Jay-Z lyrically set each other on fire and revive the culture. But NEVER have we seen an alliance of this magnitude in the world of the round ball game. This is like the universe being created all over again. Miami has three of the top 10 players in the league. I’m not saying these guys are religious figures, but for the pure sake of analogy work with me. Imagine having Jesus Christ, Moses and Mohammed all on one team. Makes for good conversation to say the least… Forget the season… I CAN’T wait for practice. WE TALKIN’ ‘BOUT PRACTICE?!
